Opportunities

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, January 26, 2012, In : Articles

I was watching one of my favorite movies Evan Almighty tonight and on top of being a really funny movie (Steve Carrell with a Noah hair cut and beard - c'mon!), I loved one of the thoughts presented in the movie.

Evan's wife, Joan, had taken a break from Evan because it seemed that he had gone loopy.  While traveling to her mother's house to stay for a while, Joan decides to get dinner.  While she is sitting in a restaurant having dinner on the TV comes John Stewart make fun of Evan. People ...

Broken Bridges

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, In : Articles
We've all heard the term "Burning Bridges".  When I happen to think of it, I think of a long wooden bridge between two cliffs that goes up in a huge dramatic puff of smoke.  When the smoke clears, the two people on either side can finally see each other.  It's a clear sign something is over because there is no way to cross to each other anymore.  The bridge and the relationship has burned to a crisp.

I happened to be talking to someone the other day and instead of saying "burning the bri...

Let Love Flow Through

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, June 9, 2011, In : poetry

Love flows through

hearts, hands, fingers, toes.

Love flows through

words, looks, smiles, grins.

Love flows through

you, me, family, friends.

Love flows through

walls, barriers, hurt, pain.

Love flows through

challenges, tests, work, tenacity.

Love cannot be stopped,

no matter what the distraction.

Love cannot be broken,

even if mishandled.

Love cannot be warped,

it will go back into beautiful shape.

Love cannot be bought or sold,

it can only be freely given and received.

Which Voice Do I Listen To?

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, In : Articles
~One from the archives.  Enjoy!~

I am really blessed to have moments where I get an idea and then the possibilities start rushing through.  I wrote something recently that inspired me to start working on a coaching program to offer in 2011.  Off I go, generating all kinds of ideas and tasks to create this program.

While I'm in the frenzy of working, getting really excited at how the program is becoming a structure I can work in, thinking of documents to go with it, exercises, etc., all of a s...

Slow Down

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, May 13, 2011, In : Articles
Back in the day, remember when a parent would yell "Slow Down!  You're going to hurt yourself!"  You might have thought "Oh, c'mon, I'm having fun!  I don't want to slow down!"

As we get older, we still are going pretty fast.  It may not be as fun as it used to be, though.  We have work, appointments, projects, driving people here, helping people there.  We are always on the go - there is not much that we can't do, sure, but do we have to do it all?

In the meantime, because we're at full speed...

Gift Giving

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, In : Articles
~One from the archives.  Enjoy!~

My niece just turned 5 years old last week.  She is so cute.  As friends and family arrived at her house for her birthday, she informed them that it was her birthday (somehow we didn't know, I guess).  She also asked if her voice sounded "older", which we all agreed it did.

I saw her opening her gifts, being very happy as she looked through her toys, clothes, jewelry - all the things a little one gets when we celebrate the life and birthday of a child.

As we...

Finding the Balance

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, May 5, 2011,
It seems we are a society that is just driven to keep going.  Work, school, kids, relationships, hobbies, housework - we can have it all right?

There are times that we get completely overwhelmed and overloaded.  I like to say it's when my head is ready to explode.  There is just too much coming in and I can't keep it all straight.  The problem I find is I can't get rid of all of these things (not would I want to) but how do I stop getting overwhelmed?

First, if there are things you can get r...

The Air

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, May 2, 2011, In : poetry
I feel the air around me
cradling me, hold me
I need strength during
a challenging time.
The air doesn't let me go.
I hear its whispers,
I feel its gentle caresses
I listen, I hear, I know.
The air doesn't stop
even when it's quiet.
It opens my ears
and my heart
to listen to the words
of spirit and the words
that come from my heart.
I just have to listen.
Turn off all the other noise
and step out into the sky,
fly away and float,
in the inspiration
of the air that I breathe.

I Can Feel My Heart Soar

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, April 14, 2011, In : poetry

As I look through my memories,
I see the black and white,
the color, the frayed, the bright,
I see it all in front of me,
the good, bad and ugly.
Some of the memories,
don’t have a meaning for me anymore.
Some of the memories
seem like they happened yesterday.
Some of the memories
aren’t as clear as they once were.
Some of the memories
are so detailed I can see buttons on a shirt.
I think about these memories
like they are pages in my book.
Some are worn, print is faded
but it is still part of what my...

Angels Walk This Earth

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, In : poetry

Angels walk this earth
in the form of your family
for the heritage they passed on to you
and their love and lessons they taught you

Angels walk this earth
in the form of a good friend
in their eyes full of love for you
and the hands they reach out to help

Angels walk this earth
in our tormentors and tyrants
because they are our teachers
to make us stronger and more loving

Angels walk this earth
in strangers you meet on the street
who offer you a smile on a bad day
or hold a door when it rains

When I Open

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, March 24, 2011, In : poetry

When I open my mind,
I understand ideas much better.
Differences turn into understanding,
learning is part of the experience.

When I open my eyes,
I see things much better.
The situation is crystal clear,
I have perfect sight.

When I open my mouth,
I speak my truth.
Others know where I stand
and I do too.

When I open my heart,
I give and receive lots of love.
My experiences flow with harmony,
I feel beyond my wildest expectations.

When I open my hands,

Drama Is Thy Blanket

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, March 4, 2011,

I was having a conversation with a friend tonight and we were talking about how some people just seem to thrive on drama.  Anytime you talk with them, they have a story about what's wrong, what's happened, who wronged them, why it happened and how they can't do anything about it right now.

So as we were discussing this, I said, "Well, some people just love their drama, it's like a warm blanket they wrap themselves in and they think it's comfortable."

To which she said, "Well, drama ...

Hope

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, In : Articles

~One from the archives.  Enjoy!~

I often wonder why things happen the way they do.   Watching the news can induce depression in 30 minutes or less.

The world can be full of cruel, nasty people and events.  We could sink down into the pit of despair very easily and walk around with the burden of the desperate energy of the world.

But then I think about hope.  Hope for the world to change and the potential for humans to change.

A friend of mine just stepped into a new cha...
