Fueling My Fire With Words

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, January 27, 2013, In : Articles

With 2013 here, I am working on doing things in my life differently.  No resolutions, just making improvements that I think need to be made.

One of my improvements is to be more careful of my words.  I speaks before I think.   I like to blame in on the Sagittarius in me - we're known to be blunt.  However, that doesn't mean it has to stay that way, though it would be much easier to keep it and blame it on my astrological sign.

It's funny how when you make a decision, a situation will ...

Morning Pages Realizations

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, January 27, 2013, In : Articles

I have been looking for ways to be inspired and make changes in 2013.  One of the things that came up as a way to tap into inspiration was working through the book "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.  It's a book to help unleash creativity and since I have felt blah in that realm, I have been working the book with some friends.

Once of the suggestions of the book is to write "Morning Pages".  It says to get up in the morning, grab your coffee or tea and do a mind dump of writing for thre...

Enjoy the Silence

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, January 27, 2013, In : Articles

Sometimes we say things that may hurt each other.  It may not be intentional but we feel the need to say what's on our mind at the given moment.  Is it necessary to tell someone what we think about them or what they're doing, especially if they haven't asked?

There are times I have to bite my tongue because, even though I have an opinion, it's not my place to put my thoughts on someone else.   It's not about me, it's about them and what they need.

Honesty is important but there comes ...

Forgiveness

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, January 27, 2013, In : Articles

I notice some of the most passionate comments I get are on quotes on forgiveness.  The common theme is that it's hard to forgive others because the person hurt the commenter very bad.  "There is no way I can forgive (my ex, my family, my boss, etc)."

This is completely understandable.  How can we possibly forgive someone that has done incredible hurt to us?   It seems counter-productive to what we should do, which is tear the person down and hurt them millions of times worse than they hur...

Strength

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, January 27, 2013, In : Articles

Strength.  It's an interesting word.  Sometimes when I hear this word, it conjures up the image of a body builder who can lift practically anything.  There is also another kind of strength and I think this is the one that is harder to find but stronger than the best bodybuilder.

It's the strength we have inside of us to handle situations that come our way.   We never know what we are capable of until we are faced with it but we surprise ourselves with the will to tackle what we need to ha...

Turn Up The Positive Volume

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, January 27, 2013, In : Articles

As I was talking to a friend the other night, she seemed to be going through a hard time.  She was saying all kinds of negative things about herself.  I said to her, "There are plenty of people in line ready to beat you up - why do you want to be at the front of the line?"

When we go throughout our day, we do all kinds of things.  We get ready to leave the house, we design projects, we interact with all kinds of people, we do work, we drop the ball, we praise, we hurt - it's endless.

If yo...

Where did my creativity go?

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, In : Articles

I did a reading the other night for one of my regular clients.  She is a talented, smart and beautiful woman with the usual questions.  There was one, at the end, I don't usually hear.

She said, "Mar, my creativity is totally dead.  What can I do to get it back?"

I gave her some suggestions that Spirit gave to me and then I also said, "You need to be inspired.  You need to do something that will touch your soul and make you smile."

This happens to me every once in a while.  I get writerâ€...

Don't Worry?

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, November 26, 2012, In : Articles

One of the most common phrases I say during a reading is "Don't worry."

Then I get the look.  A look that usually says "Are you kidding me?"

I know it's easy to say that phrase.  Because at that point, I'm not in that situation to worry about it.  It's also a pretty easy phrase to throw out there, almost as easy as "Good Morning".

Instead of worrying, what if we transformed worry into something different?  What if it turns into something much more positive?  Is it possible?

While I know w...

The Hermit Times

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, In : Articles

This time of year usually makes me miss summer and the longer days.   I look forward to the Winter Solstice for us to gain a minute of light everyday.   With the sun setting around 4:30 in the afternoon and our nights getting longer, I think about how the darkness can affect us.  And by darkness, I don't mean anything that is evil or sinister.  It is actually an opportunity to look at things differently because our sight and reactions must be different when the stillness arrives.

The Ripples of Our Decisions

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, November 12, 2012, In : Articles

One of my favorite movies is "Wanted" starring Angelina Jolie.  It's an action movie, very heavy on the action aspects.  It shows the transformation of one character, Wesley, as his life gets turned upside down when he learns, and ultimately embraces, who he truly is.

There is a line from that movie that always sticks with me.   In explaining why Fox (Angelina Jolie) joins "The Fraternity" of Assassins, she says to Wesley, "We don't know how far the ripples of our decisions go."

We think ...

The Crossroads

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, November 11, 2012, In : Articles

Driving has been a different experience for me lately.  I've been noticing a lot more instead of just having tunnel vision to my destination.  Taking a look around while waiting at a stop light can be quite eye opening.

As I was driving today, I pulled up to a four way intersection - the crossroads - and settled at the light.  I saw someone about to take a left and then, at the last minute, she decided to go straight.  I could see her brow squiggle, trying to figure out the best route to go. ...

I've Seen The Light

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Wednesday, August 8, 2012,

I've seen the light

it is so bright in my eyes

almost blinding me

It illuminates all that is around me

Nothing can hide in the shadows anymore

Nothing.

I'm not sure how I feel about that

How can I deal with those things

I thought were gone?

How can I look at what was in

the shadows of my mind?

Can the light help me?

Can the light show me the way?

Now it seems that the only way

for me to let those things go

is to shine the light on th...

We Know More Than We Think

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, June 7, 2012, In : Articles

We are amazing people who can handle an amazing amount of information.  Our brains are built to sort, collect, categorize and, if necessary, discard information.

There are times that we don't realize what we know.  For example, I was having a discussion with someone about her knowledge of tarot cards.  She told me that she didn't really know them well and she especially didn't know how to do multiple card readings.

So while we were talking, I asked gave her two cards and asked her t...

Being Grateful

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, In : Articles

I have started looking back at the teachings of The Secret and one of the things I like was the concept of being grateful.

No matter what is going wrong, no matter what is happening, the theory is to be grateful for everything in your life, even the hard lessons.

The thought is that being grateful will help you see what you already have in your life.  It shows you how abundant you really are.  It's not just material things but also your relationships, your talents and your gifts.

It's Just Noise

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, June 1, 2012, In : poetry

It's just noise

a distraction for your mind

embrace what is positive

discard what isn't kind.

It's just noise

people will say what they say

your inner voice is louder

don't let others get in your way.

It's just noise

opinions are what they are

you are the one in charge

don't forget you are a star

It's just noise

cracking and loud

tune to a new station

one that makes you proud

It's just noise

you can tune it out

Gone Now Back Again

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, May 27, 2012, In : poetry

I thought I lost it

but then it was found

Gone now back again

Around the way

not so far gone

just out of sight

I thought it was over

But I see not so much

It wasn't expected

but it is welcomed

and seen as a new start

a time reset

with a past to leave behind

There is no more to say

just things to experience

No more to grieve

just life to love

living even better

than I thought possible

because there are

no more expectations

there just is, this moment now

nothing to fix, nothing to break

nothing to ask for anymore...

The Juggler

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, In : poetry

Watch me juggle

I throw it up in the air

I have it under control

Seem to not have a care

I'm making it happen

Always on the go

the balls keep flying

I have it in a flow

More and more get added

the juggling moves faster

what if I drop one?

This could be a disaster

Why do I keep this pace?

It seems I have to, right?

I'd love to put some down

it would make me light

The wrench gets thrown

I lose all my grips

I'm out of control

my perfect flow has slip...

Stained Glass Window

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, In : poetry

Who am I?

I am a collection,

a masterpiece of careful

creations and contributions.

There are so many pieces

of experiences, places, people,

I feel like a stained glass window

with many parts making up the whole.

They are colorful and

many sizes - purples, blues,

greens, and greens,

they make up a picture.

The picture of me.

So when you see me,

you see my parts as a whole.

But when you step back

and look, you'll see that

I am many things that

I am determination;

Focusing on the future,

pushing ahead, forging forward.

My voice roars as the lion,

louder than I thought I could.

I am beauty;

Comfortable in my skin,

Singing my song, writing my lyrics

My soul stands confidently in my truth,

I'm fine?

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, May 20, 2012, In : Articles

I was walking up the stairs to my office and my psychic development student was waiting for me.  I looked up and saw her face - she looked so sad.

"How are you, sweetie?"  I said.

She looked at me and said "Doing fine!"

I paused.  She smiled and said, "Well, no, I'm not, but that's what everyone says, right?"

And she's right.  When we ask someone how he or she is doing, that person usually says "I'm fine."  It's a common response, one we never think about or really acknowledge.

Standing in the Sun

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Saturday, May 19, 2012,

The rain falls on me,

I feel the drops,

stinging my skin,

the wet rain reminds

me of my wet tears.

Dripping, soaking me.

Tearing me to the core,

even though soft.

The rain doesn't let up

I try to shield myself

but the umbrella

flies away like a bird,

I feel the rain again.

It isn't stopping.

It drives harder,

it pounds me until

there is not a drop of dry left.

I shiver but I then realize

I'm still standing.

The rain may be pelting me

with all it's got

but even though slippery...

Ready to Play?

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, In : poetry
Fate deals us the cards
how we play them in our choice
whether we fold, go all in or bluff
we hold the cards, remember?

Our chips are worth so many things
fame, fortune, family
love, hate, pain,
success, joy, happiness

Our game is the one that we play
people sit at the table
they may support us, challenge us, or deceive us
but they are all part of our game

Some people leave the table
they take their chips and go
whether or not we understand their strategy
their own game is in play too

Magnificent Sights

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, May 11, 2012, In : poetry

Find your peace
Be in the center
More than you know
This place is yours

Be the owner
Over the others
Blend with the Universe
Rise above the rest

Experience the Bliss
The childlike wonder
Draped in stars
Followed by overwhelming light

More to it all
Open your eyes
You can grasp it
And make it real

It’s all about you
Where you find it
Where you keep it
What’s in your soul

Look there now
Don’t be afraid
There are magnificent sights
Waiting to be seen.

The Work

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, February 3, 2012, In : Articles

I had dinner with my cousin the other night.  It was so nice to catch up with her.  We have a wonderful relationship where we can talk, laugh and cry about anything.

Somewhere in our conversation, we started talking about the difference between jobs and our work.  Most people have a job.  This is something that we need to have to have to pay the bills.  It can be good or bad.  It could even be something we could be very good at day-to-day but chances are it's not what we really want to be do...

that I didn’t know existed
moving through quickly,
even painfully
as I grieved a loss
I wasn’t quite sure of at that moment
but the damage was done
The Burning.
It all seems so clear
that what was had is lost
when it is crisp and distorted
as it fades away into something new
something no longer recognizable
The Burning.
I try to cling to it
but it becomes too hot to hold
and I see it flying away from fingertips
It no longer has a form

I Get Knocked Down

Those two little words - I AM.  We use them many time to start a sentence.  "I am tired.", "I am cold", "I am happy".   Those two words at the start of the sentence gives us lots of different ways to identify and express ourselves.  Do we always think about those words that come after "I AM"?  Let's look at how those words impact us at some of our core beliefs and how being more positive in our "I AM" statements will benefit us in the long run.

Those words I AM make a declaration.  It's a po...

But her mind is nothing but quiet

Before tomorrow comes

It’s an exercise in mental jumping jacks

And while she thinks she is resting

she is exhausted but asking for a sign

Then she feels a gentleness

A softness nothing like of earth

the feathers wrap her like a blanket

of warmth and love

Holding her, comforting her

letting her rest, soothing her mind

Always Do Your Best

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, January 9, 2012, In : Articles

My favorite of the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is “Always Do Your Best”.   This agreement might be one of the toughest ones to follow because we can beat ourselves up when we feel like we don’t do our best.  Or if we do our best but then don’t get the result, we feel like we failed.

“Always Doing Your Best” means to work to the highest capacity.  Striving for the ultimate results is what we’re conditioned to in life.  However, have we considered that each day our capacity ...

My own silence, my own peace.

I am being tested.

The storm laughs at me through the noise.

Trying to whip me into shape.  It owns me.

Keep your schedule realistic – If you’re booked for 7 holiday parties, a blood donation, a toy drive and five family visits, you may want to take a look at your schedule and your sanity.  You can’t do it all at once, sorry.  You risk getting yourself ill or worn out.  Even worse, you could totally loose the holiday spirit, which is no fun for ...

Older and Wiser

Today, a very good friend of mine started the journey to finish her second college degree.  She walked back into a classroom after several years and is starting the first of a two semester journey to this degree.  I'm really proud that she decided, in her early 40s, to finish what she started over 10 years ago.

The reason why I mention her age is significant.  She said to me, "Mary, I was looking around and seeing the young faces - some as young as 17!  It mad...

Tick Tock

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, August 1, 2011, In : Articles

I happened to be watching "LA Ink" the other night with Kat Von D.  She did a tattoo on a woman named "Miss Claire".  It was a pretty interesting tattoo - a pocket watch with the time "Thirteen O’clock".  The reason why Miss Claire did this tattoo was because she wanted it to represent that fact that she had wasted a lot of time waiting to do what she wanted to do in life.  She kept saying "once I did this, I could do that".  And finally, she realized that she was wasting time and it was ti...

Let's Take A Drive

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, July 31, 2011, In : Articles
I was driving along with my mom today, heading to the mall to get our nails done.  We happened to take a cut through to avoid the highway and I passed by an area that brought back a memory.   Bear with me as I tell this story.

When I was 16 and on my second to last driving lesson, I took a right at the corner of a busy intersection in Malden, MA.  I was promptly greeted by a cruiser flying head on towards me.

I hit the break the same time as the driving instructor did.  He took the wheel f...

Strength

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Saturday, July 30, 2011, In : Articles

We never know what we are capable of until we are faced with it but we surprise ourselves with will to tackle what we need to handle, no...

What's Going On In There?

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, July 29, 2011, In : Articles

Have you ever wondered what your purpose is?  Why am I here?  Well, a lot of that information is with you.  No one can tell you - you have to be connected with what's going on within you to bring it out.

With all the choices you've made, and all the sadness and joys you've felt, with all the craziness and calm, somewhere inside you, there are goals and dreams just waiting to be realized.

Know what with each choice you make lessons can be learned and challenges can be overcome.  A clear plan wil...

Just Ask

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, July 28, 2011, In : Articles

I did a reading today with a woman who is going through a lot.  She's a mom so, of course, most of her reading focused on her children.  They are going through a hard time - some medical issues, trying to find jobs, moving out on their own - lots of different things at once.

She is someone who prays a lot but one of the things she said to me made me stop for a moment.

"Other people have so many bigger problems than I do.  I am blessed with a lot.  I feel guilty asking God to help me with m...

I have a really good friend of mine who has been going through substance abuse issues for the twelve years that I’ve known him. To Yourself Be True

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, In : poetry

Sometimes the questions
don't get answered.
Sometimes life will not
deal the best hand.
Sometimes it will not
make sense at the time
but it is always
within the plan.

It can be hard to trust,
to understand the reasons why,
but it might not be clear
why you now have tears to cry.
So let the sorrow flow,
release it from your heart and mind,
and while you deal with these feelings,
make sure to yourself you're kind.

There are lessons to be learned,
growth in the way you live and love,

The Destination

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, July 25, 2011, In : poetry
It's never about the destination
it's about the journey
so why not slow down
and enjoy the view for a while?
enjoy the steps you take?
don't lose sight of the lessons you learn,
the chances you take, the changes you've made
as you go for your goal
because as you walk you path
you may find
the destination is already reached
way before you make it to the end

Take Control of your Karma

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, July 24, 2011, In : Articles
One of my favorite cards in my tarot deck is the Wheel of Fortune.  It is the one of the Major Arcana cards, which means it is a card that indicates an important life event.  It is usually depicted as a wheel spinning around.  The Wheel of Fortune means the destiny wheel is constantly turning and, if we don’t like what is happening, we should wait because change will come around.

Many people think Karma is cause and effect.  For example, if I do something “good”, good comes back to me. ...

The Comfortable Grip of Fear

There is so much going on in the world today.  I was having a discussion with a friend of mine about the future, what's happening with the economy and life in general.

I said to her, "I can see it getting better but people have to let go of the comfortable grip of fear."

The comfortable grip of fear?  I paused after I said that to her.  For some people, the fear that is out there in the media, the economy, even what is created in their own minds, is very comfortable.

I wondered how that ...

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, July 18, 2011, In : Articles

We're not good with change as humans.  We like things to be stable and when the unknown gets thrown into the mix, we struggle to find the solid ground again.

This is understandable.  We work so hard to get what we have, we want to keep our families in the lifestyle they are used to and we have our routine down pat.   So when things start shifting, we worry that life is never going to be stable again.  We focus so much on the uncertainty, we forget this is a part of life.  Life is always goi...

Falling

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, June 17, 2011, In : poetry

I felt myself falling -
there I go!
Too fast -
I can't grab onto anything!

Down the hole,
so far down,
the walls are passing by me,
as I feel myself going faster and faster.

My mind is screaming -
"How do I stop?"
"What will meet me at the end?"
"What's going to happen to me?"

And then I feel it -
I landed.
I open my eyes, I touch my body,
I am still here.

I stand up and dust myself off.
Maybe a few bumps or bruises,
maybe even a break,
but it can be fixed. I am here.

I walk away,

Let Love Flow Through

Love flows through

Love flows through

you, me, family, friends.

Love flows through

walls, barriers, hurt, pain.

Love flows through

challenges, tests, work, tenacity.

Love cannot be stopped,

no matter what the distraction.

Love cannot be broken,

even if mishandled.

Love cannot be warped,

it will go back into beautiful shape.

Love cannot be bought or sold,

it can only be freely given and received.

Be Grateful

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, In : Articles
I have started looking back at the teachings of The Secret and one of the things I like was the concept of being grateful.

No matter what is going wrong, no matter what is happening, the theory is to be grateful for everything in your life, even the hard lessons.

The thought is that being grateful will help you see what you already have in your life.  It shows you how abundant you really are.  It's not just material things but also your relationships, your talents and your gifts.

I Am Now Awake

I lay my head down to sleep
and I dream
I work out the day
My heart shows me wishes
and I rest
I lie quietly

other side and
fill my cup of motivation up again
I see and feel the
call of my heart.
I visit with loved ones
in their freedom spirit.
I realize I have no restrictions.
Because I'm dreaming.
Then my eyes open
ready to face the day
and my dreams, well,
those gentle encouragements,
they could shut down.
I could put them aside
and go into my sleepy life
or I could make them

you are worthy and determined, yes,

you can find your way back.

the future is to find hope,

find the support, love and help you need,

because with every step,

you can find your way back.

Take Control of your Karma

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, In : Articles

John Lennon once sang “Instant Karma’s gonna get you…”   For years, people have said (usually when something bad happens in their lives), “Karma got me – what did I do?”

Karma gets blamed very easily for the bad things that happen in people’s lives but what about the good things?   What if situations are neither good nor bad – they just are?

One of the theories of Karma is that whatever you send out (energy, thoughts, ideas, etc) comes back - if you do good deeds and think g...

when you settle and let go
let go of the control and anxiety
let it happen, the way it is supposed to happen
live your life as it changes
send the energy out that you're in motion
and the world, the universe will respond

How many times have you tried to accomplish something and it just wasn't working?  You've tried several times to get it done and it isn't coming together.

Many things don't happen on the first try.  For example, Alicia Keys laughed when she was referred to as an overnight sensation because she had been in the music business struggling for over seven years.

Doors will shut.  Life will deal you with hard blows.  There is no doubt about it.   This i...

Problem solving - a term that is thrown around a lot today.   How can this be made to work differently or properly?  Getting the task done and making the problem disappear (or even manageable) is an amazing skill.  At a job or in a career, this is usually one of the measurements of performance - how did you solve that problem?  Did you meet expectations or did you have a higher than usual skill set?

For some people, this isn't quite as easy, especially in their personal lives.  They may be a ...

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Saturday, May 14, 2011, In : Articles

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.

When we judge based on how someone looks, we take away their personality, their talents, strengths, pains, triumphs - everything inside that makes them who they are.

Our eyes, our perception, only tell one part of the story.  We make a decision based on our own experiences and that is where someone can be unfairly and inaccurately categorized.

Green hair?  They must be a freak.
Piercings and Tattoos?  Total Degenerate.
Flannel shirt and jeans?  Unintelli...

Back in the day, remember when a parent would yell "Slow Down!  You're going to hurt yourself!"  You might have thought "Oh, c'mon, I'm having fun!  I don't want to slow down!"

As we get older, we still are going pretty fast.  It may not be as fun as it used to be, though.  We have work, appointments, projects, driving people here, helping people there.  We are always on the go - there is not much that we can't do, sure, but do we have to do it all?

My niece just turned 5 years old last week.  She is so cute.  As friends and family arrived at her house for her birthday, she informed them that it was her birthday (somehow we didn't know, I guess).  She also asked if her voice sounded "older", which we all agreed it did.

I saw her opening her gifts, being very happy as she looked through her toys, clothes, jewelry - all the things a little one gets when we celebrate the life and birthday of a child.

It's My Karma? Nope, drop that spiritual crutch!

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, In : Articles
Karma can be a huge influence in our lives, especially for folks who are walking a spiritual path. We meet someone, end up in a crazy situation and then say "Oh, I'm working out my Karma with this person." And then that's it, we do nothing. How does that help out Karma? Doesn't that just create more Karma for us?

It's easy to blame Karma for what we're experiencing. I know I've found myself into a not so pleasant "friendship" because I've not wanted to confront the person or situation. Now I...

What do we expect?

I listen, I hear, I know.
The air doesn't stop
even when it's quiet.
It opens my ears
and my heart

that come from my heart.
I just have to listen.
Turn off all the other noise
and step out into the sky,
fly away and float,
in the inspiration
of the air that I breathe.

But I denied it, ignored it.
The cloudiness, the darkness
hid it from my sight or
maybe I did it on my own.

The mirror was asking me to look
to see the reflections
to remember what I have been through
the places I am going
the joy of today

The light illuminated it all
the reflections I was experiencing
I could see the bruises, the scars, the smiles, the tears,
all that I am made of,
all that I will be

There is no avoiding it
the reflections I must see

It's Just Noise

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, March 25, 2011, In : poetry

~One from the archives!  Enjoy!~

It's just noise
a distraction for your mind
embrace what is positive
discard what isn't kind.

It's just noise
people will say what they say
your inner voice is louder
don't let others get in your way.

It's just noise
opinions are what they are
you are the one in charge
don't forget you are a star

It's just noise
cracking and loud
tune to a new station
one that makes you proud

It's just noise
look for a sweeter sound
you can tu...

When I Open

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, March 24, 2011, In : poetry

When I open my mind,
I understand ideas much better.
Differences turn into understanding,
learning is part of the experience.

When I open my eyes,
I see things much better.
The situation is crystal clear,
I have perfect sight.

When I open my mouth,
I speak my truth.
Others know where I stand
and I do too.

When I open my heart,
I give and receive lots of love.
My experiences flow with harmony,
I feel beyond my wildest expectations.

When I open my hands,
I gras...

The Power of Words

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, In : Articles

Words have so much power.  I think because we throw words around every day through discussions, presentations, reading, listening to talk shows, watching tv and so many other ways, words are around us constantly.  We forget sometimes they make an impact.

When we are having a discussion we have an option to hurt or heal.   We can say the truth with compassion or venom.  It is our choice.

I've recently had some intense conversations with several friends of mine.   They count on me to...

Warrior of Life

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, March 18, 2011, In : poetry
There are things
that can't be explained,
understood or managed.
They are out of your control.
So it's up to you.
Do you fall to the circumstances
or do you learn the
lessons that are buried underneath?
There is always an opportunity
for positive light
in the darkest depths.
People will do what they do,
you can only control you.
Things will happen,
you can control how you react.
Life will change,
you can flow with it or stop.
Do what you need to do
to understand why it all h...

They're Not Mad

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, In : Articles

Tonight, myself and several wonderful mediums and psychics went to dinner.  While there, we got into a discussion with our waitress about mediumship and she had a concern that seems to be on the mind of a lot of people when discussing folks that have passed over.

She was afraid the spirit on the other side was mad at her.

While I don't want to give the specifics of the story, she was afraid that one particular person was going to be angry about a situation.  She was hesitant to get a readi...

The Mask

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, March 7, 2011, In : Articles

There is a mask that we show to the world.  We might quite possibly have several.  There is our work mask, our family mask, our friends' masks - different sizes, shapes, construction, moldings.  We create them to place over the softness and vulnerable sides of ourselves - our true face - to protect us.

The masks are hard, they are solid - conforming to our faces a little too well.  We hide parts of us inside, behind the mask, smothering the softness.  When we don't give these true part...

Drama Is Thy Blanket

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, March 4, 2011,

I was having a conversation with a friend tonight and we were talking about how some people just seem to thrive on drama.  Anytime you talk with them, they have a story about what's wrong, what's happened, who wronged them, why it happened and how they can't do anything about it right now.

So as we were discussing this, I said, "Well, some people just love their drama, it's like a warm blanket they wrap themselves in and they think it's comfortable."

To which she said, "Well, drama ...

Your Work

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, March 3, 2011, In : Articles

I had dinner with my cousin the other night.  It was so nice to catch up with her.  We have a wonderful relationship where we can talk, laugh and cry about anything.

Somewhere in our conversation, we started talking about the difference between jobs and our work.  Most people have a job.  This is something that we need to have to have to pay the bills.  It can be good or bad.  It could even be something we could be very good at day-to-day but chances are it's not what we really want to be do...

Setting Intentions

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, In : Articles

Intent is one of those terms we hear a lot in the crime and punishment shows.  "What was his/her intent?"

In the spiritual sense, intent can be setting an idea before you do something such as magick, a reiki treatment, a reading, whatever.    This can actually be expanded to your day to day life, not just the spiritual realm.

For example, when you wake up in the morning, you can set an intention of having a great day.  Or, if you're going into a meeting, you can set the intention...

Turn Down the Negative Volume

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, In : Articles

As I was talking to a friend the other night, she seemed to be going through a hard time.  She was saying all kinds of negative things about herself.  I said to her "There are plenty of people in line ready to beat you up - why do you want to be at the front of the line?"

If you think about it, when we go throughout our day, we do all kinds of things.  We get ready to leave the house, we design projects, we interact with all kinds of people, we do work, we drop the ball, we praise, we hu...

Standing in the Sun

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, February 25, 2011, In : poetry

The rain falls on me,

I feel the drops,

stinging my skin,

the wet rain reminds

me of my wet tears.

Dripping, soaking me.

Tearing me to the core,

even though soft.

The rain doesn't let up

I try to shield myself

but the umbrella

flies away like a bird,

I feel the rain again.

It isn't stopping.

It drives harder,

it pounds me until

there is not a drop of dry left.

I shiver but I then realize

I'm still standing.

The rain...

What Tomorrow Brings

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, February 24, 2011,

There is plenty of time
that's what I think
I'll put off 'til tomorrow
what I can do today

Days and months pass
things grow and change
tomorrow is still there
today is too busy

The years, where do they go?
wow, time has flown
tomorrow holds my future
today has too many decisions

I put it off, ignore it
make it a "future task" on the task list
meanwhile, it waits for my attention
pleading for me to notice it

Is it fear, doubt,
voices from the past
that make me put it off
if only I had more time, I ...

Hope

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, In : Articles

~One from the archives.  Enjoy!~

I often wonder why things happen the way they do.   Watching the news can induce depression in 30 minutes or less.

The world can be full of cruel, nasty people and events.  We could sink down into the pit of despair very easily and walk around with the burden of the desperate energy of the world.

But then I think about hope.  Hope for the world to change and the potential for humans to change.

A friend of mine just stepped into a new cha...

Believe in your Magic

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : poetry

You have to believe
in your magic.
It's who you are,
it oozes from your pores,
it's the glow of your being.
It's your magic,
and only yours.
You can share it
leaving your good mojo
with people.
Because it's that magic,
that beautiful connection
to Spirit and light,
that makes it so powerful.
It can never fail,
it can't be drawn away,
it can't be hidden
or ignored anymore.
Your magic is beyond explanation.
It is just you and who you are,
what you do and how you smile....

The Wings of an Angel

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, February 17, 2011, In : poetry

The Wings of an Angel

so light but they can carry anything

They are deceiving -

I thought they were just fluffy

but I was wrong.

The wings lift me up

so very high so I can

see things differently.

I look around and

see from up high

the beauty of the sky,

the air so clean, crisp,

the energy being so light,

not dense like below.

I wonder if I made all

my decisions from here

how would that be?

It's easy.

I just need to grab the

Wings of An Angel

and fly on by.

Life, As We Know It

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, February 11, 2011, In : Articles

I was talking to my mom last night and she was relaying a conversation she was having with a friend.  Mom is a "Senior" - I like to refer to her as a "Crone" - as she said something that really struck me.

Her friend said to her "Looking back on her life, I never expected to end up here."  Mom said to her "I don't think anyone expects to end up where we do."

It made me pause.  Do any of us ever expect to end up where we do in life?  Somehow, our plans get derailed or changed, no ma...

Cultivating the Spark

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Thursday, February 10, 2011, In : Articles
It starts with me
The good work I can do
The hard work I put in
The rewards I get to reap

It starts with me
A positive attitude
A strong will
A heart that's open

It starts with me
The change I wish to see in the world
The impact I hope to make on others
The life I wish to have

It starts with me
The people I have in my life
The experiences I draw in
The way I handle those people and experiences

It starts with me
how I chose to live
how I chose to love
how I chose dream
how I chose to fly

"If I was just...."

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, November 26, 2010, In : Articles

I recently did a reading for someone who is one of my favorite clients.  She's fun, outgoing and has a lot going for her.  The place she feels she is lacking is in a relationship so the last couple of readings we've had is around that topic.

I tuned into the most recent guy she had gone out on a date with and he didn't seem like he was for her.   He wasn't a dysfunctional person or a person with a ton of baggage, he just wasn't for her.

Then I heard something from Spirit that seemed...

The Spiritual Playground

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Monday, November 22, 2010, In : Articles

When working with my students, we talk about many things that they are going through in their spiritual development.

One of the reoccurring things I hear is something that sounds like this - "I am at a standstill.  I can't hear/see/know Spirit like I used to.  It's really frustrating.  Maybe I'm not cut out for this."  Of course it's not true but when it happens, we wonder why all of a sudden, it seems like we've lost ground in all the work we've done.

This is something I've exper...

Trusting The Universe

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Sunday, November 21, 2010, In : Articles

~One from the archives.  Enjoy!~

It's hard for me to trust, even the Universe.

I have been reading a lot of books lately about the Law of Attraction.  I've had my ups and downs with it.  There are days that I truly, deeply believe it.  And then...there are other times that I wish I never read these books and am ready to throw them off my balcony.

But today was an interesting day for the Law of Attraction.   I wonder if the Universe is trying to tell me to hang in there.

Money...

Powerful

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Saturday, November 20, 2010, In : poetry

Power comes in all shapes and sizes

in a baby’s cry

and a quiet elder’s dignity.

It doesn’t have to be misused

It can be wielded for inspiration

and holding others up.

Power radiates from the heart

drips from the soul,

shines from the eyes.

You can’t hide when you are

a powerful beacon and leader.

Believe in your power, it is real.

So, move forward in your power,

your path demands it.

Strength, movement, creation,

now is your time to seize it.

Powerful being, that is y...

Reach Out

Posted by Mary D'Alba on Friday, November 19, 2010, In : poetry

Reach out
and grab the hands of the one you love
tell them how much you care
and don't be afraid to share

Reach out
and touch the someone with affection
let them feel a touch so tender
so they may open their heart and surrender

Reach out
and help someone to their feet
hold them up, brush off the dirt
and hug away the hurt

Reach out
and take a chance even when scared
the greatest growth comes from courage
even if you have moments when you're discouraged

Reach out
